Sri Nagapooshani Nagalingeswar Swamy Temple is located on 1830 Ellesmere Road, Scarborough, Ontario, M1H2V5. We were also previously located on Finch and Tapiscott as many of our devotees can remember.
Kandaswamy Swamiji (Chief Priest) from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, India hails from the family safeguarding and performing prayers for Bhavani Amman in Periyapalayam, Chennai, India. He has served in Bhavani Amman Temple and Kaligambal Temple in India for years before coming to Canada.
Sri Nagapooshani Ambika Samatha Nagalingeswar Temple in Toronto, Canada Started 21 YEARS AGO when Kandaswamy Ayya, sat under a tree before Nainadevi Temple in India, meditated and saw the Nainadevi appear before him. This inspired him to start a Nainadevi Temple. However when he settled in Canada, Nainadevi Nagapooshani Amman took form. This amman statue in our temple is that of a child. Such innocence, and purity, she can see into your heart to deliver all you desire.
This same Nagapooshani Amman Temple is also in Sri Lanka, Canada and Canadian Tamils and worldwide Tamils must be familiar with Goddess Nagapooshani’s divine presence and blessings as well.
Being a powerful snake temple, in accord with SriKalahasthi and Thirunageshwaram and we specialize in performing and alleviating Saneeshwara, Rahu, Ketu and other doshas.
We have been serving the Indian and Srilankan Hindu Public as well as people of all faiths for over 21 years in Toronto, Canada. serving food, offering spiritual counselling, horoscope matching, conducting poojas, navagraha dosha nivarthis, etc. We have conducted 100’s of marriages, have allevaieted doshas for 100s of babies to be born and have trasmuted karmas of 1000s of devotees with homas, poojas, aartis, and archanas!
HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE FOLLOW THIS AMMAN/MATAJI AND HAVE GOTTEN HER BLESSINGS!
However over the past five years we have been closed. It all started when the City of Toronto stopped allowing Industrial buildings to no longer house places of worship which were functioning for decades in these very buildings due to the low cost of rent. They demanded we have a free standing building and 10 parking spaces for every 1000 square feet of space EVEN IF WE DON’T HAVE SO MANY DEVOTEES COME BY! As of now, even in these industrial buildings, our cost of rent every month comes out to be close to $23,000 A MONTH on top of our electric bill and gas bill which comes out to $2500 A MONTH and it is very expensive to stay in the place we are at. However we were managing decently with the hundreds of devotees we have served and who supported us back, until the government made this ONE HUGE CHANGE! We have since looked into moving into a Commercial building since then but getting the zoning of any building to be A PLACE OF WORSHIP is near to impossible in the real estate market. Buying a property that is already zoned also is near impossible as the price of the building starts at close to $4 million or more with many people vetting for the same property!
This change was apparently made because Scarborough’s Industrial district was deemed to serve ONLY BUSINESSES that would BRING IN REVENUE! Since Place of worship would come under the non for profit category, the City of Toronto thought such places were unnecessary without explicitly saying so and SHUT DOWN ALL PLACES OF WORSHIP INCLUDING OURS in 2016. We have been left stranded since then unable to serve our devotees, unable to properly maintain the temple, unable to pay OUR HUMUNGOUS RENT AND BILLS without functioning AT ALL!
Our devotees, our deities whom we did Abhishek as children and worshipped were left without a HOME. We cannot conduct poojas, homas, help people transmute their karma and it has been this way since 2016.
The ONLY OPTION the City has given us after considerable talks with them is they will allow us to reopen and function IF WE DEMOLISH the entire back 30,000 square feet of our 40, 000 square feet industrial building and build extra 50 to 60 parking spaces which will allow it to be about 10 parking spaces for every 1000 square feet of temple space. Our ACTUAL TEMPLE SPACE in the front of the building is only 13,000 square feet where we keep all the moorthis. Therefore, even though we don’t have an attendance of hundreds of people at the same time like a CHURCH would, the city does not understand and requires us to do this unnecessary demolition and extension of parking spaces in the back 30,00 square feet of our FREE STANDING INDUSTRIAL BUILDING in which the temple is housed.
We have been continuously paying the architects who charge over $300/hour to draft these plans and have already paid over $100,000 for negotiations with the city, drafting plans, hiring architects, etc. and now are looking at a cost of over $2.5 million for the demolition and building of the back part of the building into 50 to 60 ADDITIONAL parking spaces.
We have been trying our best to hold fundraisers for this accumulation of $2.5million dollars however have been so far UNSUCCESSFUL, our devotees in our small circle can only give so much and we haven’t even started asking….
The Chief priest Kandaswamy Swamiji’s planning to head the operation and undertake HUGE PRIVATE LOAN ON HIS SOLE NAME for this purpose which we don’t know if it will be sanctioned and most likely will not and we NEED YOUR HELP!
Calling all Hindus, people of all religions, our Telangana People, Our SriLankan Devotees, Our Indian Devotees and any devotee of Aman/Mataji anywhere!
Let’s save Sri Nagapooshani Nagalingeshwar Swamy Temple on 1830 Ellesmere Road, Scarborough, Ontario, M1H2V5 from closing forever due to LACK OF FUNDS in demolition OF THE ENTIRE BUILDING and building OF these 50- 60 ADDITIONAL parking spaces which the CITY OF TORONTO requires for us TO STAY OPEN for another 100 years!
We have stayed open for you for 21 years, we wish to stay open for more than 100 MORE! India is a land of temples, when we leave India, our children our future they grow up and they thrive in temples like these outside of India, so even if you’re living anywhere in this world, consider Amman/Mataji’s blessings when you contribute WHATEVER AMOUNT YOU CAN FOR OUR HINDU DHARMA!
IT IS OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO KEEP OUR SANATHANA DHARMA ALIVE, AND WHAT BETTER WAY TO DO IT THAN TO KEEP OUR TEMPLES OPEN AND RUNNING?
